playing with color: no. 4

Recently, I was driving to work along my usual route when I noticed some major remodeling going on at a local dive bar. There were dumpsters lined up in the parking lot and piles of debris being hauled out by the workers. Over the next few days I watched each morning as [...]

quickie holiday cupcakes

While I love baking from scratch, I like to keep a few quickie baking solutions on hand since I am often pressed for time during the holidays. Some unexpected visitors drop by after dinner?  No problem, I can whip up some treats in under 30 minutes. One of my favorite quickie [...]

playing with color: no. 3

Last week, we played hooky and left work mid-afternoon to meet up with some out-of-town friends for lunch and a stroll through the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It’s always a nice treat to do something unexpected during the week, even though you know you should be at your desk working. Thank [...]

magical garden

While in Palm Springs last week, we visited the Moorten Botanical Garden, an amazing landscape brimming with cactus, succulents and desert plants.  It was really interesting to find out that the garden was created in 1938 by the Moortens, a former Keystone Cop and his wife, a botanist.  They created Palm Springs landscapes [...]

make something yummy: molten chocolate mint cakes

I’m always interested in the combination of two elements.  Color combos is something that we work with everyday here at Rock Scissor Paper. At home, I’m obsessed with the combination of flavors in cooking, baking, and drink-making.  I love to pair new, unexpected flavors to create a completely new flavor profile.  This dessert [...]

playing with color

On Saturday morning, I joined my neighbor Nathalie on a shopping excursion downtown to a huge Asian market. Nathalie was doing some shopping for our weekend cookout and I was happily snapping pictures. The displays! The packaging! The colors! Oh my! I was in heaven. This morning, as I was going through my [...]

blue skies

If you live in Los Angeles, you know what I am talking about when I say that the sky is heavy today.  Brush fires are raging about 10 miles east of the Rock Scissor Paper studio and for several days now the sky has been obliterated by smoke and ash, making it difficult [...]
